Cripta Rasponi – The Crypt and the gardens on the roof

In the heart of Ravenna, the Rasponi Crypt, the garden and the gardens on the roof are part of the Building of the Province of the town. Few meters from the Tomb of the greatest poet Dante Alighieri, here art’ treasures and nature fuse together. This beautiful garden is perfect to spend some times realxing in the nature: diffents kind of trees, flowers and plants characterize this wonderful place.
In the middle of the garden, visitors can admire the neogothic tower with the crypt, the ancientest part of the building (probably XVIII century).
The building has been destroied in 1922 and rebuilt few years later as the Palace of the Province of Ravenna by the Architect Giulio Ulisse Arata.
The Crypt is divided in three areas. The floor is decorated with important mosaics from the Church of San Severo in Classe (VI century). The themes of the floor are: flowers, vegetables, animals ( ducks, snakes, gooses etc…)and geometric elements.
The suggestive gardens on the roof and the beautiful terrace bring on a wonderful view of San Francesco’s square.
